Road-trip Across America Real-Time Map

By the end of this summer, the Nader/Gonzalez campaign is planning to be on at least 45 state ballots. To accomplish this goal, we have launched a Road-trip for Ralph. Young, energetic supporters from across the country are hitting the road to help us get on the ballot state by state. On the map below, you'll see our teams in New England, the Midwest, the Mid-Atlantic, the South and Mountain West. Out teams are reporting live from their cellphones on their locations and signature tallies. We are the first presidential campaign in history to make use of live mapping like this. Check in regularly to chart their progress. The map updates within five minutes of our crews text messaging in.

How Does This Work?

We've setup all of our teams with cellphones so that they can text message their location to a series of Twitter.com accounts. The Twitter accounts are all linked to one central account that is periodically checked by our server. The Twitter updates are processed by our server and converted into a format that is used by our Google Maps widget. The Google Maps widget then uses the locations that we feed it with to generate latitude/longitude for where our road-trip crew it. The final step is to generate the nicely formatted information that you see above and use our buffalo logo instead of the default Google Map icon. This is the first time that a presidential campaign has used cellphones to map their actions around the country in real-time. We hope you enjoy following our progress as our teams hit the streets across the United States to get Nader/Gonzalez on the ballot!
